My '88 300SE (104K) always starts right up, then dies after about a second, maybe two, then starts up and run fines (until next time I start the engine). What's that all about? Fuel pump, fuel filters or what?
Also, yesterday for the first time since I bought the car a few weeks ago, after I started it up first thing in the morning, it would accelerate at first, then when I pushed the accelerator down more, it wouldn't accelerate any faster for about two or three seconds or so, then it would "take off" and run normally. What's that all about, and does it relate to my first problem? Thank you for your suggestions.

Need Help Tracking Down Airmatic Issue - 5508

Hi guys,

2005 E500 4matic Wagon. So recently started getting another Airmatic error. Front struts and pump were both replaced a bit over a year ago. Getting the 5508 Airmatic error saying there's a leak. The entire front of the car was lower, not dipped to any particular side. Got access to the pump and the only thing out of the ordinary was the rubber tube from the filter had a hole in it, so I cut out the bad part and reconnected. Everything else looks good. Put it all back together to see if that was the issue and it's still not raising the car.

If I clear the code with my MBII reader and start the car up, it runs for a few seconds, does a few checks, then the airmatic error appears again. I never hear the pump start up, nothing ever moves. When I check the relay and fuse, everything looks good. Even put a new maxi fuse in to make sure. I also replaced the relay with the old relay from the last pump just to see if it was a relay issue and there's no different behavior. With ignition on, there's no power at the 40amp fuse, not sure if there is only power there when the pump is running or not. Next step is to pull the floorboard and check the prefuse.

Just got back from a 4-day vacation and the car is the same height it was when I left and not as low as I would expect if there was a major leak in the system. Short of finding a STAR system (unless someone reading this is in the DFW area), what should my next steps be? I wouldn't think the pump would be bad, but anything's possible. I've looked all over this board and other boards trying to find clues. Any help is appreciated.

Need a little help!

Ok, so I bought a 1995 Mercedes S320 about a month go. It currently has 195,000 miles on it and rode like a dream. Haven't had any issues till driving today on the freeway and the asr light popped on while going about 80 mph and the power seemed to surge down. But was able to get it home. Now every time I start it up the ASR light comes on and stays on. All other lights go out as they should. When starting the car starts right up and purrs. But while driving it I have to ease off the pedal to get it to shift. I used a blink code reader and on pin 4 I got code 8 and code 42, on pin 6 I got code 30 and on pin 7 I got code 3. Even when I clear the codes they come back on immediately. The car accelerates fine but the asr light and the shifting are making me crazy. I have looked at all fuses and everything looks good. I have checked the modules in the coffin and they all look ok. I pulled each one out and inspected and by the eye they look ok. Also I have 4 fairly new tires installed all with good air pressure. Is there anything else I am missing or has anyone had the same problem?

R129 500SL questions

First post and I've enjoyed searching the forums for the accumulated knowledge.
I recently purchased a 500SL that was in need of some work and have corrected most of the issues with it, but two have me stumped.
First and most significant is that the AC isn't operating. It has a new AC compressor that was installed by the previous owner and the system is charged. My troubleshooting has consisted of jumpering the pressure switch at the receiver dryer to make sure there wasn't a switch problem, checking the fuse to make sure it wasn't blown and changing out the controller in the dash to a spare (although I don't think the spare was any better than what was installed).
Any other thoughts?

Second is a more minor problem. The windshield washer pump won't run. I'm assuming this is a wiring issue somewhere, but would like to know where to start.

So far I have:
1. Replaced power steering pump filter
2. Changed power steering fluid
3. Changed air filters
4. Replaced all top hydraulic cylinders with rebuilt units from Top Cylinders
5. Changed oil and filter (Mobil 1)
6. Replaced plugs
7. Replaced distributor caps and rotors
8. Checked Compressions - all good
9. changed cabin air filter
10. Replaced fuel filter
11. Replaced fuel pumps
12. Replaced top strut mounts
13. Replaced battery
14. Rebuilt headrest drives

I'm new to the R129, but a pretty decent wrench if I know what to look for.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Strange and bizarre fuse deformation

Yesterday my back-up daily driver, a '85 380SE, didn't want to allow me to use the defrost. It was interesting. A couple days prior, the morning after using some mystery oil in the gas, she started roughly spewing out that dreaded bluish smoke. My mind went where the knowing would. But it ran the spew out and I chalked it up to the upper midwest cold, being 34 years old as well as everything else. After the blower motor wouldn't come on I checked the fuses. I found something that in my 40+ years of experience in automotive repair had not or do not recall ever seeing. It's as if someone crushed it or it got so hot it melted. A further inspection is fourth coming.

There are the usual reviews and stuff... but, I cannot seem to find a list like you see items detailed on the sticker? I found a car that looks interesting that says it has a 'Sports Package' but cannot find a reference?
(maybe gear a soccer-mom left behind...) Are there any verified resources out there? Thanks.

Oil Pan Gasket

I need to change the O-ring in the oil level sender. It is leaking. I understand that the sender needs to be installed from inside so the pan has to be dropped.

It appears that there is an upper and a lower oil pan gasket. Which one do I need to order? Or both? Is there more than one joint at the block so two different gaskets are needed.

I guess all can be answered by looking at the car but I am at work and wanted to get the order for the gasket going.

engine air box rattle

hi guys. I've uploaded a video that shows a rattle coming from air box. I hear that sound when I shift gear to D position, it seems that engine vibrates much. While changing gear engine moves a bit. Do you have any idea what cause this rattle sound (I'm definitely sure it is coming from the air box because it stops when I try to hold it) and is this engine movement ok?

Good evening
Could anybody please tell me where the IAT sensor is on my 2007 W639 109 CDI? it'll save me hunting around my engine bay during these dark and cold evenings..
I have looked on EPC and have found the part number (A000 542 28 18) but it gives no clues on its location.
Many thanks in advance
